RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Amon Twijukye, a 28-year-old resident of Rumira cell in Bugangari parish, Bugangari sub-county, Rukungiri district.
The incident reportedly took place on the night of August 15th, 2023, around 11:00 PM.
According to reports, Twijukye was in the company of Habert Naturinda, 19 years old, and Dick at Rumira Trading Center.
They approached Ninsiima Agatha, also known as Muteta, requesting alcohol service. However, she declined due to her shop/bar being closed at that time.
While Agatha was still present, Twijukye joined them and they gathered under the shade of her bar. A sudden quarrel erupted between Naturinda Herbert and Twijukye, stemming from a longstanding dispute.
During the confrontation, Naturinda Herbert, armed with a machete, allegedly attacked Twijukye, inflicting a fatal neck wound.
Twijukye collapsed and was quickly transported to Nyakibale Hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi Region Police, stated that Bugangari Police was alerted to the incident by Mathias Tusryasingura.
The crime scene was visited and processed by the OC Station and CID Bugangari Police.
The authorities promptly arrested Naturinda Herbert, and a postmortem examination was conducted on the deceased to gather further information.
The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement seeks to uncover the full details surrounding this tragic event.
