RUBANDA – A substantial sum of Ugandan Shillings 109 Million from the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP) Loans has been disbursed to Women Associations in Rubanda District.
The revelation came yesterday during a sensitization meeting at the District Headquarters, where Rubanda District LC.5 Chairman, Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba, announced the successful crediting of the funds to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
In attendance were District officials and Women Association leaders, and during the meeting, Kasyaba disclosed the amounts allocated to different districts from the UWEP Funds. Notably, Rubanda emerged as the top recipient, securing UgX 109 million for the 2023/2024 financial year.
Kasyaba credited this achievement to the area’s top leadership, especially Rubanda East MP Henry Musasizi Ariganyira, who also serves as the State Minister of Finance, general duties. He urged the women receiving the funds to utilize them judiciously and requested the District Community Development Officer (DCDO) to consider reinvesting in groups that excel in the coming financial year.

Expressing their gratitude, Women Association leaders such as Asiimwe Phionah from Ruhiija Sub-county and Christine Nowamaani from Kashaasha Town Council praised the Government of Uganda and the Rubanda District Leadership for the timely release of the UWEP Funds. Some women shared that they had been pursuing these loans since 2018, with many planning to invest in Irish potato farming.

Gordon Kahwezi, the Rubanda District Community Development Officer, clarified that the Shs.109 million would be distributed among 27 women groups, with immediate access after the sensitization meeting.
Kahwezi further detailed that, to date, Rubanda District has received a total of Shs. 709 million in UWEP Funds since the 2016/2017 financial year.

The Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program, initiated in the Financial Year 2015/2016, targets women between 18-65 years. The loans carry zero interest for repayments within the first year, with a 5% per annum service fee for repayments made thereafter.
Importantly, no physical assets or collateral are required, and the repayment period extends from 1 to 3 years, depending on the nature of the enterprise.
