NTUNGAMO – Police in Ntungamo District have recorded a murder by stabbing involving Bakasisa Constansio, a 109-year-old female adult and resident of Kahunga 1 Cell, Kahunga Parish.

The perpetrator, her husband, Babiiha Dominic, a 110-year-old male adult residing in the same location, allegedly committed the crime on 14/12/2023 around 8:00 Pm.

Reportedly, after supper, the suspect asked the deceased to join him in his bedroom, but she declined due to feeling weak and having a cough. Both retired to their separate rooms, with the deceased accompanied by two great-grandchildren.

The following morning at approximately 07:00 Am, the suspect raised an alarm, and when the great-granddaughter, aged 10, investigated, she discovered the suspect armed with a weapon resembling a bent panga (Oruhabyo).

The suspect ordered her to leave before entering the room and repeatedly stabbing the deceased.

The crime scene was documented, the murder weapon recovered and exhibited, and a postmortem conducted on the deceased.

Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police spokesperson, explained that preliminary investigations suggest that the violence stemmed from the denial of conjugal rights in the marriage. However, inquiries into the matter are ongoing.

Kasasira condemned all forms of violence, urging the public to resort to nonviolent means for conflict resolution and seek assistance from relevant authorities.
