KANUNGU:Police in Kanungu district have arrested four suspects who allegedly murdered Isaac Muhumuza 18 years a boda boda rider and robbed his motorcycle registration number UEZ 310H.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate have identified the suspects as Joab Niwagaba, Justus Byaruhanga, Onesmus Aine and Morris Ariho all residents of Kihihi in Kanungu District.
According to Maate, it is alleged that on the 6th November 2022 a case of disappearance was reported at Kihihi Police station by Nyurarukundo Hope that her son had failed to report back from his Boda Boda work. On the same day, Police was notified by motorcycle mechanics in Kanungu Township that two people were selling motor cycle spare parts.
Maate explained that the Police immediately responded and arrested 23-year-old Byaruhanga of Kihanda cell while Niwagaba the prime suspect escaped and a case file of being in possession of suspected stolen motorcycle registration number was opened against Justus Byaruhanga which has turned be both murder and aggravated robbery respectively.
A group of bodaboda riders after getting information from both the Police and Radio announcements, followed the prime suspect Niwagaba Joab who had escaped and found him in hiding in Rubuguri in Kisoro District and brought him back to Kihihi and he revealed his other two accomplices as Ariho and Aine who were both arrested taken to Kanungu Central Police Station for further management.
Maate said that on interrogation, Niwagaba Joab confessed that it was himself together with Ariho Moris and Aine Onesmus who killed the deceased and buried him at Matanda 1 cell in Kihihi Sub County in the farm of the late Stanley Musekuura and robbed his Motorcycle.
Maate said that the scene of crime was visited by Police District team and upon getting a Court order, the body was exhumed and a postmortem examination was done and the body was handed over to relatives for decent burial.
Maate said that a case of murder and aggravated robbery has been registered at Kihihi Central Police Station under reference number CRB 664/2022 to help in further investigations.
