Mob Lynches Suspected Defiler as Police Arrest Accomplice in Rukungiri


RUKUNGIRI – One person has been lynched another rescued from Mob and arrested by  Police in Rukungiri District has for defiling a 16 year old girl, a pupil at Nyabushenyi upper primary school and resident of Kashanda village in Nyarushanje parish, Nyarushanje Sub County.

The deceased, 20-year-old Wilber Ariho, and the suspect, Ezra EKyorikunda who is currently arrested at Rukungiri Central Police station are accused of defiling the young girl whose identity has been withheld for security reasons.

According to the police statement, on Tuesday of this week, Ariho forcibly abducted the victim from her home as she was preparing supper at 7:30 PM. EKyorikunda, an accomplice in the crime, covered her mouth and carried her to a secluded area with dense bushes in Nyakahanga cell.

Tragically, the victim was sexually assaulted by Ariho, aided by EKyorikunda who restrained her. Fortunately, the girl managed to escape and returned home, where she disclosed the horrifying incident. Word spread throughout the village, leading to a community effort to apprehend the perpetrators.

In the morning hours of yesterday, locals successfully captured Ariho and EKyorikunda, subjecting them to severe beatings. Regrettably, Ariho succumbed to his injuries. Ezra EKyorikunda was rescued from the enraged mob and subsequently arrested. Elly Maate, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, stated that the area chairperson, Ndyamuhika, reported cases of defilement and murder by the mob to Rubabo police station.

Ekyorikunda was taken into custody, and Ariho’s body was transported to Kisizi Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination. The police investigation is ongoing, shedding light on the disturbing events that transpired.

Relatedly, Police in Kanungu District has registered the sudden demise of a 30-year-old woman named Kato from Nyakirehe cell, Western ward, Butogota Town council. Kato collapsed and passed away at 9:30 PM yesterday. According to relatives, she had long been suffering from a liver disease, evidenced by a swollen stomach, and had been under medication and treatment at Bwindi Community Hospital.

Maate says that upon receiving the report, D/AIP Aruho Ronald and his team promptly arrived at the scene, but Kato had already succumbed to her condition. The area was secured, photographed, and the body was handed over to the grieving relatives, now lying in state at their home in Nyakirehe cell.
