Woman Killed, Body Discovered lying in a Plantation of Sweet Potatoes

KANUNGU – Police in Kanungu District are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Jenesita Bandaganire, a 58-year-old resident of Katebere village in Kayungwe parish, Kayungwe Sub County.

According to reports, on the night of August 21, 2023, at around 8:00 PM, the last sighting of the deceased was at Mukanoni Trading Centre. It is said that she was there to purchase bushera before leaving for her residence.

Tragedy struck on the morning of August 22, 2023, approximately at 7:00 AM, when the lifeless body of Jenesita Bandaganire was discovered. She was found lying in a sweet potato plantation about 30 meters away from Katebere road. Her body was surrounded by a pool of blood that emanated from her nose and ears. The presence of head injuries was also evident.

Preliminary investigations suggest a possible motive behind her untimely demise. Apparently, she had been engaged in leveling the ground at her residence to facilitate the construction of a new house. This activity might have attracted undue attention from ill-intentioned individuals who may have believed that she possessed a significant amount of money.

Elly Maate, the spokesperson for the Kigezi region Police, confirmed that a report was filed by Deogracious Mugisha, a 32-year-old individual. Law enforcement officers subsequently visited the scene to conduct a thorough examination. The scene was processed by a team of expert officers, a postmortem examination was performed, and the body was subsequently released to her family for dignified final rites.

Maate conveyed that the investigation is still ongoing, and the identities of potential suspects remain elusive at this time. Further inquiries are being pursued to shed light on the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident.
