KISORO – A section of Kisoro district residents have diverse opinions regarding the proposed introduction of a 200,000 shillings fine by Kisoro councilors for those caught littering garbage in drainages.

The councilors assert the need for every trader and resident to assume full responsibility for garbage collection in their respective areas. They argue that the fine aims to improve sanitation, promote better hygiene practices, and mitigate environmental pollution and disasters caused by clogged drainages.

Traders Andrew Ntirubabarira and Valence Ndagijimana, based in Kamunye ward, Kisoro municipality, express support for the proposal. However, they attribute the issue to authorities’ failure to timely collect garbage and emphasize the importance of consulting them before passing the ordinance.

On the contrary, resident Rogers Owomuhangi opposes the proposal, suggesting that the district should clean drainages before implementing the ordinance.
