KISORO! Veterans Commend NRM Liberation Day Significance Amidst Acknowledgment of Ongoing Challenges

KISORO – Veterans in Kisoro District have emphasized the significance of the National Resistance Movement-NRM Liberation Day.

On January 26, 1986, National Resistance Army guerrilla fighters successfully seized power after a prolonged war in Luwero and Nakaseke districts.

Colonel Tadeo Hatega Haguma, a participant in the guerrilla war since 1985, acknowledges the NRM’s commendable strides in enhancing security and infrastructure. However, he highlights pressing challenges within the health sector, such as inadequate pay and external pressure due to the anti-homosexuality act, urging prompt attention to prevent erosion of these achievements.

Contrarily, Kisoro district Resident District Commissioner, Hajji Badru Ssekandi, contends that the NRM government has faltered in addressing health, unemployment, and poverty. Despite challenges to service delivery, Ssebalya asserts that President Yoweri Museveni’s leadership has garnered noteworthy accomplishments that merit acknowledgment.

This year’s Liberation Day celebrations took place at St John Secondary School Akitaka Playground in Jinja city’s northern division, centered around the theme: “Building a Country We All Cherish.” Aligned with the broader NRM party manifesto (2021-2026), it underscores the commitment to ‘securing Uganda’s future.’
