KAMPALA – The Chief of Defence Forces, General Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, has challenged the recently promoted Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Generals and Officers, emphasizing that promotions entail heightened accountability to both the nation and the UPDF institution.
“Prepare yourselves, recognizing that ranks signify seniority, authority, and responsibility in line with the chain of command,” stated Gen Mbadi during the decoration ceremony held today at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Joint Headquarters, Mbuya.
The promotions were conferred by the President and Commander-in-Chief on October 3, 2023.
Gen Mbadi underscored that the elevated ranks symbolize commendable military service marked by discipline, loyalty, integrity, selfless service, personal courage, and patriotism. He urged the officers to maintain their well-being and fitness.
Emphasizing the UPDF’s pro-people code of conduct, the Chief of Defence Forces urged the promoted officers to avoid actions detrimental to the UPDF’s cohesion and effectiveness.
Gen Mbadi expressed gratitude for the sacrifices and support provided by the officers’ spouses and families.
Brig Gen Wycliffe Keita, speaking on behalf of the decorated Generals and Senior Officers, extended appreciation for the guidance of the Commander-in-Chief and the CDF’s leadership.
“Your direction, personal example, and consistent guidance have significantly aided our professional growth and strengthened our collective capacity as an institution,” noted Brig Gen Keita.
He added, “Your confidence in our abilities means a great deal to all of us. We eagerly anticipate the challenges and opportunities presented by the new ranks.”
Among those honored were Brig Gen Jimmy N Musoke, Brig Gen John Patrick Otongo, Brig Gen James Muhwezi, Brig Gen Richard Rubongoya, Brig Gen Wycliffe R Keita, and seventeen Colonels.
Key attendees included the Deputy CDF, Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, Joint Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda, Commissioner Human Resource, Mr. Alfred Cox Anguzu, Service Chiefs of Staff, Service Chiefs, Generals, and Senior Officers.
