RUKUNGIRI – Kabale University has taken the helm at Rukungiri Primary Teacher’s College following the government’s initiative to phase out 22 Primary Teachers’ Colleges nationwide, aligning with the implementation of a new teachers’ education policy.
The formal handover ceremony, overseen by the Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Bishop Emeritus Patrick Tugume, and Dr. Annet Mugisha Kajura, a commissioner from the Ministry of Education and Sports who advocated for quality education, transpired at the college premises situated in Nyakeina parish of Buyanja sub-county yesterday.
The Chairperson of the Board of Governors for Rukungiri Teachers College, Canon Sabiti Wilson Mahirane, revealed that on August 6, 2023, they received an acceptance letter from the Ministry of Education and Sports approving the transition of the college into a branch of Kabale University. Canon Mahirane expressed optimism that the transformation of the college into a university branch would revolutionize education in the region.
Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe, the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese and the foundational body of the college, sees the collaboration as ushering in a new era of educational excellence and innovation in the Diocese. Bishop Asiimwe urged Kabale University to uphold the values of the former PTC.
