KABALE – The Ndorwa East County Member of Parliament in Kabale District, Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba has advised the Public against the use of narcotic drugs due to the recent enactment of a stringent new law.
Hon. Wilfred delivered this message as the guest of honor during the closing ceremony of a youth conference held at Nyakigugwe Catholic Church.
The church is a sub-parish affiliated with St. Mary’s Bukinda Catholic Parish in Kabale Diocese, situated in Kaharo Sub-County within Kabale District.
The newly passed law, known as the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act of 2023, now permits the licensed cultivation and consumption of marijuana exclusively for medical purposes.
It also imposes severe penalties for a wide range of offenses related to substance abuse.
Engineer Didas Ndamira, representing the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Atwakiire Catheline Ndamira, encouraged young people at the conference to actively engage in government initiatives.
He emphasized the importance of acquiring practical skills such as plumbing, construction, and welding, which can empower them to generate income
In his homily, the Parish Priest of Rushoroza Parish in Kabale Diocese, Fr. Austin Christmas, urged the youth to prioritize their personal development and always strive for excellence.
